I think surveillance cameras are a must today at the schools with someone monitoring them while school is in session.
Wishful thinking...I just wish it could be that simple, yet what do the students and faculty do in the 15 mins it takes for cops to show up? The 30 mins it takes for a command post and medical evac site set up? 20 mins for a negotiator to get there?
You have set up a perfect kill zone for the crazies....locked in and unarmed. The crazy person would just shoot out the door and come in and start the massacre. Responding Police and Swat would be in a "killzone" as soon as they came through the once "strong point".

And even though I'm pro-2nd-A, I doubt it would have made a difference if the teacher had a firearm - if the guy busted in with a shotgun, she never would have had a chance to go for it.
Unless you've been to Bart Township, you cannot imagine just how absolutely alien this would be to the people there. Even though Philly is just over an hour's drive away, it might as well be on another continent. Bart Township is about as idyllic as it gets.
