Hostage situation may be developing.

Not many details available yet, but an incident has been reported from Mine Rd. in Bart Township in Lancaster County involving multiple gunshot victims. Dennis Buterbaugh reports live from our newsroom. abc27 has a news crew on the way. We will update with details as they become available.

NICKEL MINES, Pa. — At least two female students and one slightly older female — who may have been a teacher's aide — were shot and killed execution style in what police say may be a revenge killing for something that happened 20 years ago.
State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller said Monday that truck driver Charles Carl Roberts IV entered the one-room Amish schoolhouse in earlier in the day. The gunman brought in pieces of wood to board up the doors to the building when he entered the school. He also stacked desks against the building's doors.
"It appears that the suspect entered school with the intention of taking hostages," Miller said.
Roberts had wire ties and plastic flex cuff, which he used to begin tying the hostages feet together after they were lined up along a blackboard. He let go 15 male students, as well as one adult female who was pregnant. Three other non-student females with infants were also allowed to leave. One shotgun and one handgun was found next to the suspect when police entered the building.
"It seems as though he wanted to attack young, female victims," Miller said.
After a half hour inside, Roberts began shooting. When the gunfire stopped, three females were found shot dead at the scene, along with the suspect, who shot himself, Miller said. At least seven more victims — some critically wounded — were transported to nearby hospitals, he said. One victim, a young girl, died in the arms of a trooper, Miller said. He could not confirm how many people died en route or at the hospital. The county coroner earlier reported six children killed but then backed off of that statement.

I can't believe some of the comments I have read on this thread today.Have some of these people never heard of manual labor? Maybe they ought to try it some time. Life doesn't consist of sitting on your butt in an office all day, and then sitting in your computer room for the remaining time. That isn't even living. You complainers really need to get out and experience a little manual labor. It wont kill you. And hey, you might actually feel better about yourselves when you are done.
To all those families who lost children today. I am saying a prayer for you all. As I am for all of the other families whose lives have been disrupted by such a senseless act. May your community come together to help you through such a devastating time.

Some if not all of those adults had a small child with them, and 1 was pregnant.
The adults didn't kill those kids only one evil man did.

Apparently, the teachers were told to leave... Why didn't one of the teachers jump this guy? At least the children might have had a chance to run for it...I guess hindsight is 20/20. If I ever find myself in a situation like this, I'm going to fight the person.
He also knew they do not have cell phones, could not contact the outside world.
Somehow, one of the released teacher's aide got to a phone to call 911.
This bought him time to carry out his evil.
Well judging the number of people here who have heard differently in this case I will deffer this to them until I have a chance to find out further details.

"Taxi" drivers are usually retired guys who drive the Amish around in white passenger vans. They're contracted by word-of-mouth and are usually English friends or neighbors of the families. My cousin and uncle drive for the Amish (likely even some of these same families), hauling loads of lumber, wood products, farm equipment, etc.
Columbine happened less than 1/2 mile from me, many kids in my community were involved (mine were too young thank GOD).
The biggest lesson of Columbine that still reverberates in the community is never again will LE sit outside while kids are dying inside. The idea is to be in fast (as I understand they were in Bailey, within minutes they had SWAT and deputies in the building)
I would never second guess LE, they did what they thought best in all instances, but at least in colorado, you can bet that the authorities will be on the inside quickly, no matter what it takes. I think overall this is by far the better plan.

I didn't say they killed them. They might have died themselves, that is obvious. How do you leave little children with a psycho?! Someone going to tell me the boys wouldn't know how to call 911? It is all horrible. But they should not have been left alone to die by themselves. Poor babies. (btw, I'm a mother so this does make me especially emotional...like it does others.)
Well, if so, I and most homeschoolers I know are in violation of the Federal Gun Free School Law.
I think it only refers to registered schools.

I wish police would not refer to the perp's proclaimed incident that occurred "20 years ago" as cause for his evil actions. That could well have been calculated on his part ... who will know anyway: he is DEAD.
All of the adults females, except the teacher, were either pregnant or were holding infants. I can understand them wanting to protect their own children. The main teacher ran for the nearest phone. Yes, in hindsight, one of the teachers with an infant could have ran for the phone and the main teacher could have tried to attack the guy, but given the split-second they had to figure out what to do, I can understand the decision that was made.
