I didn't like the feeling of time as a series of discrete events instead of a contiguous flow.

And I could see "outside" myself and wanted to smack myself.

I had the same feeling, although I didn't want to smack myself.  I felt as if I had an out of body experience. Friends in the room said I was speaking perfect Latin. I've never spoken Latin before in my life.
