As for the 16th Amendment... if we put enough pressure on our reps it can be done (we did it with prohibition).

Repealing the 16th Amendment does not end the possibility of an income tax, it just gets rid of the 16th Amendment.

But removing the parts of the tax code that call out income taxes, removing the income tax itself, removing the IRS (and defunding it), and requiring the income tax records to be destroyed - those hings DO eliminate the income tax and with sufficient votes to pass the FairTax it isn't likely at all that we'll ever have voters foolish enough to let the camel's nose back under the tent with any form of income tax.

Repealing the 16th would be icing on the cake but what would be even better would the the repeal amendment wording calling out that no income tax may ever be imposed in the future on taxpayers,
