Save America with the ‘Fair Tax Act’
The Courier ^ | August 31,2006 | Gordon Bishop

Posted on 09/03/2006 5:18:40 AM PDT by Man50D

Abolish the federal income tax!

No more taxes on savings and investments!

A "Fair Tax" can completely fund the federal government, Social Security and Medicare!

You control how much you spend!

So what are we waiting for?

You, the taxpayers of America burdened with an income tax that is costly, wasteful and sinking America into inevitable bankruptcy. All current forms of federal taxation would end! You would keep 100 percent of your paycheck. You control how you spend your paycheck. It's your money. You make the decisions as to how you want to spend your money.

The Fair Tax would create more jobs and give the USA a level playing field when selling overseas. United States Senator John Linder (R-Georgia) is sponsoring the "Fair Tax Act of 2005." If enacted by Congress, it would accomplish all of the above. Simple. Easy. And affordable.

It's the best way to downsize government without disrupting the economy.

To join the "Fair Tax" movement in America, just sign the "Economic Freedom & Fairness" Petition supporting forward-thinking solutions. Go to www.grassfire.net and liberate the working class of taxpayers. Grassfire is trying to give the working class the same kind of freedom America's founders gave to those who joined the American Revolution in 1776 with the "Declaration of Independence." We won the Revolutionary War, but have lost our country since the 16th Amendment (income tax) became "Law" in 1913.

The 23% tax rate is when you calculated it 'inclusively'

Including the item and the tax and the tax on the tax, etc.

Do the math.

Out of 16,000 accredited economists, about 10 have endorsed the FT.

Economics: The only profession where you can be wrong more often than the weatherman, and still get paid.

Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society" had tremendous "grassroots" support at the time.... Look what we're stuck paying for as a result.

Both Florida and Texas already use the Fair Tax model for their own state taxes.

The cult has a new falsehood! I almost missed it.

Florida sales taxes are NOT applied using a dishonest "inclusive" model.

" Absolutely! Why do you favor The Fair Tax?"

I have been following it on FR since last year and have seen both sides of the debate. I like the fact that EVERYONE will be paying including criminals and illegal aliens (redundant I know) but I think the prebate is kinda stupid and just adds more redtape to a system we are trying to streamline.

I think it will need a lot more exposure before the average American will get behind it.

The flat tax has higher marginal rates. (32.7 te/24.65 ti PLUS business taxes hidden in prices.

The flat tax has higher effective rates.

The flat tax is regressive due to the payroll tax.

The flat tax retains withholding.

The flat tax retains hidden taxes in prices to the same extent as today (due to business taxes).

The flat tax is not border-adjusted.

The nrst has lower marginal rates (29.87% te/23% ti and eliminates any income tax costs from being hidden).

The nrst has lower effective rates.

The nrst eliminates the payroll tax on wages from the employee AND from the employer.

The nrst eliminates withholding.

The nrst eliminates business income taxes and prevents those taxes from being hidden in prices.

The nrst is border adjusted - giving US mfg a chance at the world market (the US mfg base has shrunk by over 50% as a pct of GDP in the last 50 years).

Most of the anti-nrst folks - no, all of them - try to omit the fact that under any income tax, earnings are reduced long before you spend them. They simply omit that component from their "analysis".

For example, wrt federal taxes - today I'd have to earn $133 to buy a $100 baseball glove for my nephew b/c I pay a 25% effective federal tax rate.

Under the nrst, the invisible income tax costs (which represent a MINIMUM of 9% of retail prices - according to the anti-nrst people) will be eliminated. So the baseball glove goes down to $91. Then, under the nrst, my effective rate would be 17%. So I'd need to earn $109 to buy the glove.

You tell me if middle class would benefit.

Out of 16,000 accredited economists, about 10 have endorsed the FT.

And 560 have endorsed a minimum wage increase. Of course, a higher minimum wage wouldn't cost nearly as much as the NRST entitlement system.

"Both Florida and Texas already use the Fair Tax model for their own state taxes."

Really? When the Governor's secretary orders a stapler for the office, does the state pay the sales tax? Or are they exempt?

If they're exempt, then they're not really using the Fair Tax model, are they?

Does Florida pay the state sales tax on the salary of the Governor and all the non-teacher salaries?

Does Texas pay the Texas state sales tax on all employee fringe benefits-- medical, insurance, etc?

If not, then it is not the FairTax model.

In addition, does Florida and Texas send a sales tax prebate welfare check to every citizen of the state at the beginning of every month?

If not, then it isn't the FairTax model.

He may have been trying to dishonestly credit Florida's lack of a state income tax to the "Fair Tax" proposal, even though Florida has never had a state income tax.

And the truth is, this is not the Flat Tax that is/was under consideration. It was the hijacked and hair brained bastardization of the true Flat Tax system - and it died in the cradle as it should of.

"No Soup for You."

Tax reform, pffffft. That'll be the day.

People were just as skeptical about women obtaining the right to vote but a strong grassroots effort resulted in the 19th amendment. The Fair Tax movement is the same type of grassroots effort.

The Fair Tax movement is the same type of grassroots effort.

No, the FairTax movement is a heavily financed populist cult-like operation, trying to masquerade as a grassroots movement. The strategic operational planning at that AFFT website and other places makes it clear that this is an orchestrated campaign, not an organic grassroots movement.

"I like the fact that EVERYONE will be paying including criminals and illegal aliens (redundant I know)"

Catch this -- they are already!

When you buy a Made in the USA $50 shirt, the employee payroll and federal taxes, corporate income taxes, etc. are already built into the price of the shirt. Under the Fair Tax, all those taxes would be pulled out of the price of the shirt dropping the cost -- the Fair Tax is then added making the price $50 again.

According to the proponents, if you believe them, the Fair Tax simply makes all these "hidden" taxes visible. The only way we'll get more money from the drug dealers and prostitutes and other criminals is if they start charging the Fair Tax on their services and they send that money the the federal government.

Yes it is. If I am mistaken, provide link to the other bill. I'd like to see a flat tax without the problems listed above. If there is one, I'd like to know about it.

So in other words we are getting screwed twice right now. The product already has taxes built into it and I am then charged an additional (income tax) on the money I need to purchase the product? Or does that total amount still add up to 30%? Another question I have is how the fair tax will not tax "used" items. Why would people buy something new if they could save 30% by buying something used (such as a vehicle)?

"So the baseball glove goes down to $91."

My baseball glove says, "Made in China". Where do the Chinese get this $9 amount you're talking about?

Right now, my effective rate is 17%. Under the nrst my effective rate is 17%. But the price of my baseball glove just went from $100 to $129.87.

Uh-oh. Oh, and if your rate went down, someone elses went up. Too bad for them, huh?

...Where do the Chinese get this $9 amount you're talking about?

The 9% you mention is from robfromga and dimples, not me.

The reduction in prices on imports will not come from a reduction in their US tax burden BECAUSE THEY DON'T PAY ANY US TAXES!.

The reduction is simply a lessening of their currently HUGE profit margin. They have NO tax burden and nearly ZERO labor costs. No wonder they love to sell here - 40% profits don't suck.

The nrst will reduce those profits (if, that is, they wish to continue the same market share).

BTW, with the information you've provide, the MOST your nrst effective rate could be would be 14.89%. You wouldn't be fibbing again, would you?
