If blacks fought shoulder to shoulder with white confederate troops then why did the confederate soldier react so badly to black Union troops when they met them in combat? Satlville, Pillow, Olustee, Poison Spring, the Crater, the OR is full of accounts of black Union soldiers being shot down while trying to surrender, or being murdered after surrender. Why do you think that happened if blacks were accepted as equals in the confederate ranks? The same reports that mentions several thousand black men with Jackson's column also mentions the revulsion that the cofederate soldiers expressed at the idea of meeting black troops in battle. Why would the react in such a fashion if their own army was filled with black combat troops?
don't have one??? i thought NOT!
