By the way, all the Gospels are . . . well, Gospel. They are the inspired Word of God. They are told from the perspective of four different people, but I believe them to be true. If you believe Matthew's wording was some sort of ploy to curry favor with the Romans, that's your problem. (Most Christian historians believe that he was eventually martyred in Ethiopia or elsewhere, so I guess when it comes to currying favor, Matthew really stunk.) I believe it is true and inspired by God.
Also, it is good to note that in the Apostle's Creed, the oldest creed in Christianity, only Pontius Pilate is mentioned. If the church fathers wanted to shift all the blame to the Jews, they certainly could have written it into the creed -- which is not in itself scripture.

I wasn't being "clever." I searched for the scripture, which you said didn't exist, and showed you. I have provided sources for all my assertions. My only concern is for the truth. I don't appreciate your accusative tone or your tendency to throw out assertions with no links or other support.
"under Pontius Pilate" - not BY Pontius Pilate. Check the prepositions. The episodes preceding the crucifixion are the most poisonous in the NT and Gibson did his best to explit it. The worse, of course, is in St. John and its assertsions about the "Jews". (as in "they were afraid of the Jews").
