Remember James Byrd, Jr.? Those were his buddies ~ got drunk with them ~ next thing you know he's going down the road wrapped in a chain pulled by their pickup truck.

Then there was that Mat Shepard ~ first he's drinking with some guys (at least one of whom has demonstrated some serious homosexual inclination in prison) and the next thing they've got his money and he's hooked to a fence in a snow storm.
