Did you mean to say Variety knew she was Jewish, largely irrelevan, and ommitted it? If so, I'd be curious why they did that. If that wasn't your meaning, never mind.

They'd have liked having a quote from a "conservative Christian" because that's the group that the Variety crowd hates the most. That's why the quote was so effective for Variety's purposes.
