Yes..it was my bad time in life...
I was up to almost a two cases of beer a week before I took hold.
Was I an alkie? Damn close too it. So I can afford to have a bit more compassion for him.
Also, I was a Volunteer EMT who had seen the effects of drunk drivers. What Mel did was wrong, what he said was wrong. All I am asking for is a bit of the compassion for a guy who made a mistake.
I was a volunteer medic too. For many years. I'm pretty much zero-tolerance for drunk driving. But, I've seen a whole lotta chemically-altered people over the years, and I disagree with in "vino veritas". People under the influence say and do incredibly stupid things that they would never do or say under normal circumstances. So, is the drunk the "real" person? Not unless that's their normal state, in my opinion.
