The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
Yeah, I keep saying the same thing about your big bold pronouncement about no one taking Jesus's life, because you said it and you haven't explained it in light of the actual words of the Gospel.
"After they crucified him, they divided his garments..." Matthew 27:35
"Then they crucified him and divided his garments..." Mark 15:24
"When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him..." Luke 23:33
"There they crucified him, and with him two others..." John 19:18
Now, let's just extrapolate from your notion. If no one crucified him (took his life), then we can also suppose no one accused him, no one sentenced him, no one denied him, no one rejected him, because he willingly willed it all, and he is God after all...
You're an expert in nonsense. Now, defend your dumb statement in light of those quotes in all four Gospels.
As the Gospel of Luke says, God the Father gave his son
God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16).
Jesus agreed to suffer death in order to save men--to redeem them from their sin. That doesnt mean no one put him death. Jesus did not fight against or otherwise try to avoid his death at the hands of men. His lived without sin to his last breath, and said from the cross It is finished
Fortunately, Americans are decent people - which I cannot say of the Europeans. Jewish graves in Greece were ransacked after the film was shown.
REad the book "The Anti-Chomsky Reader" - it goes into all this stuff. chomsky is a wacko.
You don't have to convince somebody like me - I registered Republican ages ago. The Democrats are the party of hatred. Not the party that my parents used to belong to.
No, he didn't, and the Nazis hated the Poles. However, it was harder for the Jews. If you were a Jew, you were automatically a target: if you were a Pole, maybe you were or weren't.
This is how it works: Gibson's father denies the Halocaust is step one. Step 2: Gibson blames the Jews for the death of Jesus. Step 3 becomes the Jews start all the wars (as per Mel's converation with the police officer). Step 4 is round them up! Then you have to wonder how we survived nearly 2,000 years of anti-Semitism. The man and his father are deranged and dangerous.
Your point being??????? Stein was gassed because she was born a Jew. Period. You can't "dejudaize" the Holocaust which is what Gibson is trying to do.
I agree. You make some excellant points. it is sad.
yes, that is how it works. have you read Joan Peters book,"From time Immemorial"...whoa.
Puh-leeze. This is a textbook case of in vino veritas.
Nope. My father didn't teach me to be a bigoted a-hole or a drunk driver.
The bottom line is that, in the ongoing war, holding Gibson's views today is the equivalent of being a Bundist in 1942, and deserves the same level of universal opprobrium.
Sounds like a worthy tome.
The reason dirty cops survive is that they abuse people who can't fight back effectively. Anyone with two firing neurons knows that Mel Gibson doesn't fit that description.
Why? If you've been here for any length of time, you'd realize that FReepers tend to take a pretty firm law-and-order stance when it comes to endangering the public (e.g. by drunk driving).
Add the embarrasment and anger of those FReepers who feel like chumps because they defended Gibson from the charge of anti-Semitism in the past, and this response is quite predictable.
It now becomes clear that the reason "Hollyweird" insiders called Mel an anti-Semite is because they knew (having had the opportunity to hear him when he wasn't maintaining a public facade) that it was the truth.
Hellooooo? Answer the quuessstttion? Do you BELIEEEEVE that the Jooooos started all the wars in the world like Mel does?
Seeing as how he got drunk, he seems to have cut and run from that battle.
Huh? I've met some "jolly drunks" (who are nice but somewhat cool and standoffish when sober) on occasion.
