The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
Didn't some Freepers
give you hell? Has anyone
said, "You're right, we're wrong?"
So, he apologized? Big deal...he's a Jew-Hater and I will NEVER give him another dime of my money.
?????
Move to New York and run for the U.S. senate?
And what exactly is he? He's a movie-maker who hates Jews.
Judge not, lest ye be judged.
That isn't "crazy drunk". That's just crazy.
Mel has built up a lot of infrastructure around his religious views. If he seriously wants to solve what's going on in his mind, there is going to be a lot of fallout to those around him.
I'm going to give him a break here for one reason: there are things that I have done and said that I am deeply ashamed about, and reflecting and meditating on that flawed behavior has changed me as a man. Maybe he is a screaming Jew hater. He can change. One thing that Christianity has taught me is that all have sinned and all can be forgiven. Another lesson I've learned is that people are transcendent beings. We are not stuck on autopilot like God's lesser creatures. In fact, some of things that I am deeply ashamed about are contained somewhere in documents that are now sealed, so I know what it is like to have your shameful behavior posted in public for all to see. I know how small and stupid I felt; for a star like Mel Gibson, that public display must be extraordinarily humilating. I hope Mel uses this incident to become a better man.
I have no contempt, only pity. I'm sure his heart is in the right place. He just can't control his impulses. Such a loss.
Disavow his father's remarks about Jews, for starters.
Remember his "My father never told me a lie" in the Diane Sawyer interview?
If he still believes that, then he's as racist as his dad.
I have every right to judge anti-semites.
Hmmm me wonders if everyone on here (especially myself) would apologize as sincerly over what we have said sober, let alone drunk. It is VERY rare that you hear such accountability of ones behavior of a public figure. Especially one in hollywood or in politics.
I hate drunks and I have worked with many of the deputies from the lost hills station, so I know what they put up with, I hope Mel pays the price for his offense.
I would imagine we need to all recognize that if anyone actually cared what we said at anytime anywhere enough to put it in the paper for our friends and family and co workers to see, we would be just as ashamed and not have alcohol to blame.

In case you don't understand what's going on in this world..every Jew has a target on their heads. That includes me and probably 25% of the people on this website. The last thing we need is a high-profile AMERICAN Celebrity saying things like this.
For your pinglists.
That was rude on your part
I like Mel Gibson and I love the conservative messages in his recent movies like Brave heart.
He has made the best, and the most pro American Vietnam war movie ever made.
His movie on the last hours of the Lord Jesus Christ's last hours is unmatchable in Hollywood history, and will endure far past his lifetime.
He is an alcoholic and got busted again for drunk driving.
So far I'm shocked at the viscousness of the feelings many on FR have towards him.
I think the liberals will be even worse in their responses, so it will be interesting to see how a DUI charge unfolds for the Hollywood directer that would dare to make "Passion of the Christ".
Before he made his pro Christian movie, nobody would have predicted that the popular movie star Mel Gibson would become a hated figure to much of the power establishment in Hollywood and opinion makers in the media.
Which, considering his father is a raving Holocaust denier, is an interesting comment.
