All the President needs to do now is deploy 6 times the number of troops he originally committed and give them the authority to actually stop illegal aliens. Pretty simple, but will any of the "alphas' in DC do it??? It all depends on who they've whored to.

"Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told a House Appropriations subcommittee Thursday that the U.S. will have operational control of the border by 2008 -- two years sooner than they had anticipated."

it is a question of whether our national leadership really wants to do it. With the proper mission, 35,000 troops could have operational control in one month.
Don't we have 35,000 troops in South Korea?

"Operational Control", thats political talk for "Baffle 'em with B**l-s**t, keep 'em guessing and wanting more". The political elite think their superior to the average citizen and can Con us with thier Smoke & Mirrors. Elections are coming up, lets show 'em what B**l-S**t gets 'em!

We do, and they have been securing a border for more than 50 years. They could do a good job
....but alas....
Our leaders, starting at the top, apparently
1) don't believe there is a problem
2) think that closing the border will destroy the economy
3) don't give a rat's ass what us varlets think.

Why would anyone believe anything Michael Chertoff says? He said once that they were going to stop the catch and release program - but they haven't. He said once that foreign nationals found to be in the US illegally would be rounded up and sent back - they have done VERY little of that. His agency, in its short history (according to a media news story released yesterday) has pissed away $35 Billion in taxpayer dollars, with little to no accountability. The man has the credibility of shrimp and I think he's an out-and-out liar.

In his prior life, Michael Chertoff was a government attorney before Bush43 appointed him a circuit court appeals judge.
As a manager of America's security, he sucks.

"Operational Control" sounds like more BS.I don't buy the rhetoric anymore.I've come to the conclusion our government plans on doing as little as possible about illegal immigration.

Agree. Chertoff was a poor choice to manage a huge and important bureaucracy. He just doesn't have the experience or leadership abilities. That was very evident during Katrina. He approached the problem with Blanco and Nagin legalistically and not operationally. General Honore demonstrated how to get through the red tape and get the job done.
We don't need lawyers who used to manage small staffs to be in charge of large USG agencies and departments. Tenet had a similar problem moving from being a Senate staffer in charge of a handful of people to becoming the Deputy and finally Director of the CIA.

General Honore brought gravitas, disipline and order into the chaotic effort of the Katrina aftermath. Bush was lucky the General was on the job.

What the author of this article, Tom Tancredo, and the FR hardliners are not willing to admit is that if the Tancredo/Senselessbrenner get tuf house bill were to be enacted today, it would take quite a few years before operational control would be achieved.
To: Reagan Man
We need "operational" control of employers that hire illegals immediately. There is no excuse for not enforcing the law now.

He also brought decisiveness and common sense along with operational effectiveness. The Coast Guard also did a tremendous job right from the very outset.

Sorry Ben, Neither the author, Tancredo or any FR hardliners believe the passage of the Tancredo/Senselessbrenner get tuf house bill will immediatly solve the problem.
What will happen is FR FROBL's will continue to make shit up to discredit anyone that does really want to stop illegal immigration.
