- I agree that Rudy has a problem with previous statements about abortion, gun control and gay marriage.
However, he need only announce that he favors that each state has a right to legislate on these matters and therefore, if elected President, he would not propose or support any federally initiated legislation governing these issues.
This would satisfy most of the Republican base without having to do a complete about face and try to defend why he has suddenly renounced his previous positions, as Lieberman had to do in 2000.
As I said, Rudy's a wily old campaigner who could mount such an argument in such a fashion that he could probably win over even a lot of Democrats who are already nervous about what a Hitlery regime would mean.
