In 1981, shortly after taking office, Reagan lamented "runaway deficits" that were then approaching $80 billion, or about 2.5 percent of gross domestic product. Within only two years, however, his policies had succeeded in enlarging the deficit to more than $200 billion, or 6 percent of GDP. The deficit is now 500 Billion in 2006 dollars. The 200 billion that actually grew to over 350 billion in 1986 is the equivilent of almost a trillion in today's dollars. So get off you damned high horse.

So get off you damned high horse. Add to that rott'n, spending during Reagan's eight years was up around 22.5% of GDP. It's been around 19.5% for Bush.
