She began to address her conversation to me also, and before I knew it I had joined them at their table. Now that's real New York!

That's it! And the only NY I know. Of course, there are the nasties but that comes from within and not from your address. You added to their evening.

Thanks for sharing your Stephen Mitchell story. People are friendly everywhere and you found it out by being friendly first, no doubt. Your the type of person people gravitate towards. It's those that have preconceived mindsets of certain people and, thus, by their own actions prove themselves right - although, it's not reality.

For many years, I was reluctant to talk to strangers. Many times I wanted to approach someone but didn't. I began talking to strangers after I became comfortable with it on the internet, in anonymity. I realized how friendly people are and how easy to get to know. The second big break came on 9/11. In its aftermath, people were open and friendly; there was a sense of family. Now I talk openly and freely with people everywhere. I love it.

I've lived many places--Europe and all over America--and have travelled everywhere. Nasties are everywhere but fortunately in the minority. Wonderful people are everywhere--and in the majority!
