The biggest reason why Americans have little love of soccer is the fact unlike most countries, we have multiple major professional sports that siphon off just about all the best athletes and fan interest away from soccer: the National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, and to a lesser extent the National Hockey League. Also, the enormous recent success of NASCAR racing doesn't help, either.

However, the potential is there for Americans to totally dominate soccer, though. Can you imagine what would happen if American soccer players were composed of people that would normally end up on NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL teams? It would be scary, to say the least. Can you imagine what the US team would be like if their strikers were strong, tall people like Dwayne Wade and LeBron James? The Europeans would be flattened like a pancake. And you wonder why European club teams are constantly looking for strikers in the mold of Jan Keller from the Czech Republic team.

Hi RayChuang88-

You're 100% correct. Future U.S. soccer teams will be drawing from a huge population of over 300 million people. Other advantages include our advanced fitness training experts, dieticians, sportsmedicine specialists, and modern athletic facilities like the Olympic training center in Colorado. It is only a matter of time before we win the World Cup in the near future.
