When Davis criticized state government for last year's Terri Schiavo end-of-life debate, Smith shot back that he put together a coalition to "stand up to the governor," who supported efforts to keep her alive.
Of the four candidates, Gallagher struck the most rigid partisan posture. When asked about the national debate over immigration, he forcefully declared illegally entering of the country must be stopped "at whatever cost." The others were more measured in their response. Gallagher also displayed skepticism about global warming, but agreed alternative energy sources should be pursued.
If Crist was not invoking Jeb Bush - "the best governor in America," and "my friend" - he was mentioning his role as state attorney general. Crist said he has fought to make Floridians safer and would continue to do so. He too noted the race's philosophical undercurrent.
"Florida," he said, "is at a crossroads."
Gubernatorial candidates wear their positions on their sleeves

Please pass this around Free Republic.
Crist is "for amnesty", Davis is "for amnesty", Smith is "for amnesty". Gallagher is "against amnesty". Today's Tampa Tribune Saturday METRO SECTION.
(by the way, I met Crist in 2002 and he said that terrorism was the most important issue at that time. Well, then why has he forsaken the overwhelming number of Americans who are against amnesty?)
OTHER NEWS: Frank Nagano for Fla AG is the only candidate who supported Terri Schiavo's right to live). I saw the other candidates at a forum and none of the others are capable enough to be Florida's AG. We need someone capable since Crist just fouled up that dept. Please support the smart choice, FRANK NAGANO.
Crist is going to do whatever Brett Sembler, his manager tells him to do and to say.
Crist is on his third tv commercial. I guess the expensive commercials aren't working out for him. The current one is half Crist and half Jeb.
The Semblers may have a loser on their hands this time around.
mark of the beast post yours re: Crist.
So many brave cowards stood up for death. They want to run Florida now.
