This time, the ogre takes the form of a former member of the British Medical Association's ethics committee and Emeritus Professor of Medical Ethics at Barts and goes by the name of Len Doyal.
Doyal has called for the legalization of non-voluntary euthanasia in the UK and -- by way of a media release from the Royal Society of Medicine -- has stated that doctors should be permitted to remove needed care from patients or kill them by way of lethal injection -- with or without their consent. That is to say that Doyal believes Voluntary Active Euthanasia (VAE) and Non-Voluntary Active Euthanasia (NVAE) should be viewed as morally acceptable and lawful actions, depending on what doctors perceive to be the best interest of the living patient.
