WASHINGTON — Accusing politicians of "pounding their chests" on immigration for short-term political gain, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday that the tone of the debate had been "hurtful" to him and his Mexican-born wife, Columba.
Bush, the younger brother of President Bush, reserved some of his sharpest criticism for conservatives in his own Republican Party, calling it "just plain wrong" to charge illegal immigrants with a felony, as a provision passed by the Republican-led House would do. He also opposed "penalizing the children of illegal immigrants" by denying them U.S. citizenship, an idea backed by some conservatives but not included in the legislation.
"My wife came here legally, but it hurts her just as it hurts me when people give the perception that all immigrants are bad," the Florida governor wrote in an e-mail exchange with The Times.

No thanks. Nothing personal against the Bush family, I mean I actually like our current Pres. Bush aside from the immigration thing, but enough is enough.

Has anyone else been able to find a second report on these comments Jebby made to the LASlimes? I am really incensed over what I am reading that amounts to ammo given to the enemy. I was too busy today to call the governor's office, so I'd like to know. I am ready to let one rip at Jeb like I've never ripped before.

President Bush brought this country like Phoenix out of the ashes of a Clinton recession. He did it by LOWERING your taxes.
The Democrats have been outraged ever since because it's proof that not only can they defend this country but they can't be friendly to small business - the backbone of America. Make no mistake about that.
Consider the past decisions not to enforce the immigration laws as akin to breast-feeding the Katrina victims for going on a year now.

If Jeb really made the statements he's alleged to have made today to the enemy, the LASlimes, I am ready to connect some dots... big time!
There is not even a pretense of allegiance to or pride in the U.S. in any of his comments. It is a lecture along the line of his brother's -- the President -- a lecture to American citizens to be "civil." It is a holding up of law-breaking Hispanics over those of us who reside here legally and abide by the laws of the land.
We are the law-abiders and WE are being told to be civil?
We protest the breaking of our nation's laws and WE are called "anti-immigrant?"
WE have bent over to welcome and accommodate people from every corner of the earth like no other nation before us, only to be insulted as though we are mean-spirited instead of as generous as we truly are?
