Does our current income tax system add up? What's the easiest way for politicians to raise taxes? Via withholding which no one sees or via a sales tax increase that can be seen in your cash register receipt? I like the FairTax if for no other reason that it ends the deceptive ways politicians have of increasing the taxes we owe to the government.

With the sales tax politicians do not have to increase taxes, bureaucrats do it automatically. If SS needs more money, the sales tax rate AUTOMATICALLY rises to meet the need. Don't worry, the sales tax won't put politicians out of business. They will add more items to items that are exempt. The fairtax bill already exempts education and i think even internet access, so why not add some more. The will fiddle with the rates. They will change the prebate and perhaps add some means testing to it.

Not taxing education is not an "exemption" Rightie. It is considered an nvestment and therefore not taxed.

And the FairTax rate is not increased automatically. In fact, if anything it may go down as the tax base greatly expands.
