The motives of people who oppose the FairTax must be examined. Are they just protectiong thier personal loop hole?

No. I do not approve of the fair tax because it is just a silly shifting game. Oh look I'm paying out of my left pocket instead of my right pocket.

A fair tax would be an equal tax where every one is treated equally under the law and is given the same tax bill. How one arranges one financial affairs, should have no bearing on ones tax status. Should one freedom of speech, be dependent on the amount one has to say?

Equal citizens should get an equal tax bill.

You're speaking of a flat income tax.You may not realize the current tax code started out with the same concept. When the income tax was enacted on February 12, 1913 there were only two income tax brackets: the first tax ranged from merely 1% on the first $20,000 of taxable income and was only 7% on incomes above $500,000. In the beginning, hardly anyone had to file a tax return because the tax did not apply to the vast majority of America's work-a-day citizens. For example, in 1939, 26 years after the Sixteenth Amendment was adopted, only 5% of the population, counting both taxpayers and their dependents, was required to file returns. Today, more than 80% of the population is under the income tax.

Another flat tax would only morph into another oppressive and complicated tax system.

The tax RATE should be equal, not the dollar amount. I would suggest that you spend some time reading about the plan and the philosophy behind it.

Can you tell me of a plan in congress that has support that works better than this one?
