That doesn't seem to be science to me.

True. But just assume for a minute we were designed by a higher power. In that case, no matter what science comes up with will be wrong, since they do not allow for that possibility. It will be science. But it will also be wrong.

So, what? Should we all just give up in the meantime? Give up and go back to the caves?

Not for me. I like microwaves and medicines and all the rest. I could chip you a good arrowhead if necessary, in about 30 seconds, but I prefer supermarkets.

You go back to the Dark Ages, thanks. I'll stay here and support science.

Oh great, that would lead to the death of intellectual inquiry. If a supernatural being tampered with the universe and left evidence that leads to a false conclusion, than nothing true can really be learned by studying the universe. If you can't find Truth that way, why even bother with science? Most scientists on some level or another are driven by the desire to know what happened and why and how the world works.

You can see this in creationists. Most of them don't really do any serious research into geology, for instance. They think they already know what happened--the universe was made 6000 years ago, there was a global flood 4000 years ago, and that's why things are the way they are. They avoid the actual evidence because they think they know the answer already and they have a sneaking feeling that the evidence doesn't say what they think it should--which of course in the most stubborn of faith simply reinforces the notion that the evidence of the natural world can't be trusted.

It only works if your assumption is correct. We could equally say quit trying to understand gravity... it is an "Intelligent hand" pushing you down. Or quit studying weather because it is an "intelligent weatherman" making the weather.

Not exactly. Science when correctly applied would probably not be able to confirm the higher power (unless obviously there was evidence), but it also would certainly not come up with any conclusions that conflicted with that hypothetical truth. Science is just a means for separating what we know from what we don't know. Thus when correctly applied it's never wrong, it's just sometimes incomplete.

This is the problem with the current ID movement. It's fine to believe a higher creator (and this doesn't conflict with the Theory of Evolution, regardless of what the ID propaganda crew tells you) but if your theology conflicts with actual certainties of science then there's something wrong.

Unfortunately it seems obvious that certain religious groups would rather simply spread misinformation to undermine science in the areas that conflict with it instead of adapting new knowledge into their theology.

That assumption is self-evident, but those who refuse to acknowledge it
will never be convinced, this side of the grave.
When they stand before their Creator, then they will have no
choice but to acknowledge Him.

Then it will be too late.

I refuse to argue with them.
Pray that their eyes be opened, and their hearts be broken
and they come to salvation, before it's too late.
