The elitists in the administration are in the pockets of the robber barons who pay to run the campaign ads and mailings that scare the sheep into voting and contributing lest the demon-rats sweep into office. On the other hand clintoon did his own very special brand of damage to the nation, the lewinskis in the oval office and the give away of missle guidance secrets to the communist chinese come to mind... Neither party is looking out for the middle class of this nation. Its death by a thousand cuts from within from here to the end...
Ever heard of reverse engineering? If China can figure out how to manfacture it, uaually by using American provided tools & control systems, they can figure how to design it & similar goods themselves.
The US had a great run, because of two things. First, WWII left most of the industrialized world in shambles, and the US had it's infrastructure intact. It took years for Europe and Asia to recover. Also, most of the rest of the world was engaged in that failed experiment called "socialism" and other centrally-planned economies. We ate their lunch.
Fast forward to the end of the Cold War. Now the world starts to wake up and get that capitalism is indeed the way to go. So, now the gap between the US and the rest of the world has finally started to close a bit.
But here is the good news. The US still has the freest economy in the world, and as long as it does, we will remain dominant. It doesn't mean it's not going to be painful at times, I myself have experienced some of that pain. But Americans never backed down from competition, and they won't back down now. And we know that messing with the invisible hand always leads to disastrous results.
Bush did get a deal from the Indians, they got nuclear reactors we got bushels of mangoes.
The US government doesn't owe you a job. I was in IT for over twenty years and after several layoffs I went back to school. I now have a new career in the medical field and love it. If I can do it, anyone can. Or y'all can sit around and whine and cry about how the world isn't fair. Jeez, I thought only liberals whined about the government owing them something.
There is a handful of very recent active posters trying to turn FR into a liberal supporting website. In general just ignore these folks who advocate policies and processes that will result in Democrats coming to power to dictate the lives of your family and neighbors.
The only way to stop this is to send money to GOP candidates in vulnerable districts. You can rest assured that they will be the rightward most leaning candidates in those races who are viable.

Even Bill Clinton didn't do this much damage to the Nation. It will take years to recover, assuming we can survive 3 more years of this kind of idiocy.
WOW!!!! What a statement. I have never heard anybody say that Bush's policies are worse that Clinton's. You must be very upset and are just venting.
It's not just engineers, it's people in accounting and finance.
A lot of the issues have more to do with age discrimination (wage discrimination) than offshoring.
I tell anyone I can that realistically to only expect to work for somebody else until you're 40, and then work for yourself after that, because when you hit 40, companies are going to start to look for any excuse to get rid of you. Make the most of the money you make in your 20s and 30s, and save up to start your own business.
1. The plant was scrupulously clean. Not a speck of dust or oil could be seen anywhere. I have been in hospitals that were not so clean. The factory was fairly new, the operation having been moved from the Midwest a few years ago.
2. The process is highly automated. Just a handful of workers were needed to run the entire factory.
3. The specialized equipment in the plant was imported from Europe. Most companies in that particular industry use the same equipment.
4. The quality standards were impressive. The company carefully monitors and controls every step of the process. As a result, their defect rate is an order of magnitude lower than its competitors'. This despite the fact that they use similar equipment and processes.
The company also has a plant in China that is dedicated to serving the Chinese market. No one at the US plant seemed much concerned that products from the Chinese plant might be imported to take business from them. The only advantage the Chinese operation has (other than close proximity to its primary markets) is lower labor costs; however, because so few workers are needed, the wage differential does not matter much.
The lessons for American manufacturers shold be apparent.
India has existed for a long time. But only in the last decade or so have we been heavily outsourcing
Could it be that the EEOC, OSHA, and all the other alphabet-soup agencies have made it uneconomical to employ people in the US?
WHen you outsource to a company in India, rather than employ people internally, you don't have the EEOC staring over your shoulder to make sure you employ enough Black programmers (here is a list of all black CS PhDs. It's not long), you don't have sexual harassment lawsuits when one of your female engineers takes offense over what her manager says, etc, etc
