Its very simple, he is sticking to his guns reguardless of what anyone thinks.. Further shows that he is a man of his word - if its popular or not. It also shows he doesnt care about polls what so ever, which I think is great. I dont think the deal will pass (they will prob have enough votes to override his veto), but he stuck with it.

So say he decided today to totally suspend the bill of rights (more than it is now)? Would you be as impressed with his intractability?

Suspend the Bill of Rights? Your going to sit there and tell me thats the same thing? Thats very very thin... Just because you disagree with him does not mean he has to back off in what he believes in. If he wants to make this deal happen, he will push for it. If congress stops him, thats it. Whats the issue? Let it work itself out. Sometimes you win and other times you lose. Bush will probably lose this fight, but atleast he fought it and didn't back off like some lame duck. Even if its something the majority of us disagree with. Infact this can help the republican congress for the 06 elections. It will show that they are "tougher" on terror and do not always agree with Bush on every topic. They are not "mindless robots doing his bidding", as some libs claim. I look at it as a lose for Bush and a Win for the republican congress in the eyes of the american people. Maybe Bush is just taken one for the team for the 06 elections. There is a method to the madness, let it work itself out.
