President Bush is no Rhetorician, as Reagan was.
I was thinking of Pat Buchanan, who is a Rhetorician as well. Not all who can't understand this President support Buchanan - not in the least - but my point is that along with quite a few who are cranky, never satisfied Buchanan types POLITICALLY, there are probably even more who would be more firm in their understanding and support of the President if he were that Rhetorician that he so clearly is not.
Being Texan myself and liking Western movies and the Western mystique, I appreciate the man as he is, lack of rhetoric and all. But many, many do not associate this with trustworthiness, competence, consistency and effective style of Leadership. They don't have a real sense of the man and Leader like they feel they did with Reagan (the Rhetorician). (Some ARE just naysayers with grudges and axes to grind, largely personal in nature, in my view
The others don't fit that stereotype and might be well meaning, but they do not fathom this President and I have given at least one possible reason WHY.
When you get right down to the core of it, they think that President Bush is dumb. They don't like that he makes decisions without their sage advice, and contrary to their wise opinions.
He moves on his own, independent of any special interest group or strain of ideology, and this drives the elitists on the right crazy.
Then the blind followers of those elitists mimic them on FR, and call themselves 'purists.'
