Exactly! Seems the administration has learned how to change the subject in a major way.
I hope as with the Miers for Supreme Court action this ends the same way. Just a whole bunch of talk.

You all are about to learn a good lesson on how the Political game is played by a master of the craft.

Cool! Another McCain Feingold victory!!! WOOHOO!!!!
"It would be an easy enough thing to back off on. He believes in this. There has to be a reason, something broader that is not known."
Fact: GWB giggles "Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton"
Fact: GHWB has been getting quite chummy with one B. Clinton.
Fact: GWB supports a move that is seemingly counter productive to U.S. safety concerns, and puts out nothing other than "support". Threatens to excersize his veto power for the FIRST time, since he has taken office.
Fact: One Hillary Clinton, who has been moving towards being "tough on security", is rallying support to stop the sale of port management services to the UAE.
Those are facts.
No, management would NOT be from Dubai, it would be from the same U.S. subsidiaries that manage the ports now. THREE levels removed from the UAE government. TWO levels from the DP World company, which has U.S. citizens on its board and as managers and workers both in UAE and in other countries including our country. ONE level removed still from the O&P company that runs the deal now and would still run the deal after the merger.
The only obvious change will be that the company DP World will be out 6.7 billion dollars in the short run, in exchange for getting the profits from operating the ports that they apparently think will be worth the investment. And a bunch of stockholders of O&P will be singing all the way to the bank.
Nobody else thought these contracts were worth that much. But that is economics, not security. This has nothing to do with security.
Congratulations! Start the attacks from the get go.
This is too serious an issue for that NONSENSE.
I don;t like the deal on its face, but I shall withhold my opinion until we hear from President Bush and obtain all the available information.
I don't think it matters if Congress is able to override. It is the fact that it's this little issue that he chooses to go to the mattresses over. THAT is the part that's concerning. We don't have all the pieces of the puzzle, that's for sure. But I can't honestly say that I trust him, or his merry band of neocons. I used to trust them, but after the screwing they've given Israel, and their determination not to protect the borders, I don't trust them at all.
Honored.
Been there, done that and NOT impressed...it is as full of Islamic extremists as every other backward Arab nation. Bush is a complete and utter fool; this reeks of "Carterism". My Gawd, Cheney has an accident and the country goes to pot...where the hell is Karl Rove? Out to lunch? We need someone reponsible to tell him what to do... The "Read My Lips" No. 41 recession relic apparently has the floor. John McCain, PLEASE, call your office!
While I like GWB I'm afraid he's "lost it" this time. Whenever we hand over CONTROL of any part of our country to ANOTHER NATION we're in deep trouble. Even Saddam made us fight to get control of Iraq.
Or paying in advance for something (think logistics for the coming war in Iran).
There's more to this than meets the eye. I just can't hear a damn thing with all the shrieking going on.
I'm reserving judgement until more facts come out. I've seen this type of knee-jerk reaction here before. Who knows, one day the knee-jerkers might finally be right, but I'll wait to see before freaking out.
(BTW, I'm not saying you are a knee-jerker, just a general comment.)
There was story over the weekend about an female member of the Iraqi parliament(?) sayijng that Americans were being racist when they make such decisions based on country of origin. IIRC, she said this to "81tch-slap" some US Democrats...
I don't think her lesson was lost on W.
Thank you for posting that.
I'm simply amazed at how many people I thought had a brain have gone off the deep end about this without knowing ONE FACT.
But, for some, it serves their purpose, I guess.
Being protectionist on ths is NOT going to get us antwhere, and simply plays into DEM hands..
Saudis already operate ports here, no one whined...
This is a deal between a BRITISH COMPANY, and a Dutch-UAE conglomerate. Why are we even getting INVOLVED??
If we stop this deal, can they take away OUR ports in the Middle East?? The Pols are running with the Media before thinking, and as usual, it will bite them in the ass again......
I must the President owes the American people an explanation of his position here. I am neither a BushBot, nor a Bush basher, I am just a concerned American. With all due respect, Mr. President, sir, "WTH are you thinking?"
Forgive me, Clemenza, if I am mistaken. Dubai approved the actions of the UAE...additionally, Dubai is the most powerful emirqate in the UAE. The recognition of the Taliban would not have happened without Dubai's active support.
