I seriously hope this is a joke, but I'll add up a few things already mentioned on this thread. First off, flight requires a light frame, strong muscles and a ferocious metabolism to power it all.
Now show me an animal with those qualities that can go months without food in subfreezing temps, aka penguins.
Not having to keep up with the requirements for flight seems to be an advantage to me...
