I'm reading that article now. Interesting contradictions. In the Kansan story, it is reported that the metal object was for certain and that they hit him "for about one minute". According to this article, the fists were certain and the metal object is only a possibility.
In the Kansan article, he apparently pulled over to let them pass but then was the first to get out of his car.
The X-ray and CAT scan reportage were not attributed to the prof. I'm sure he got them. He "said he suffered a broken tooth". This is an interesting use of phrase. Shouldn't it have been obvious to the reporter? Could have been a phone interview, I suppose.
"Mirecki said he was taking a long, pre-dawn drive in the country to clear his mind in wake of the recent controversy and was planning to end his drive by stopping at a restaurant for breakfast."This is not adding up. Remember, these thugs knew who he was. How? Does he have a sign on his car? They followed him and he just happened to want to take a drive that would take him out of town that day. To clear his head. At 6:40am. You clear your head at the end of the day, not after a refreshing sleep. Now he pulls over to let them pass. Fine. Then he gets out of his car. He gets out. I don't know where you live, RWP, but in Lawrence, Kansas today, right now, the wind chill is three degrees Farenheit and was even colder yesterday. Nobody is just getting out of their car. If it were me and the tailgaters didn't zoom ahead, I'd be annoyed and I'd take off. This is not adding up.
Thank you for linking to that article.
He might well have a bumper sticker or two. Given his outspoken opinions, I wouldn't be surprised.
Lots of guys out around dawn in pickups at the moment. It's hunting season; I get up before dawn and hear the shots outside. Lots of guys with a little gasoline in their bellies too, even at 6:30 a.m.. They see some pinko driving slowly, tailgate him, he pulls over, they stop for a little rumble, recognize him (his picture's been on the paper and on TV in Kansas), maybe he gives them some lip, and they work him over a bit.
Turns out the best breakfast place in Lawrence is on the south side of town, so that adds up, too. Lawrence isn't that big a place.
It was -5 F this morning when I went out to feed the birds. You live around here, you get used to it.
