So it's possible that evolution isn't true, or even if it is true, that it's the result of God's guidance and it couldn't exist otherwise.

It isn't possible that common descent isn't true IMHO. The evidence is too overwhelming. It is possible that it is the result of God's guidance interfering with natural selection (even a militant atheist like myself can see that). Such a belief may be true, but cannot be scientific, because it is untestable. Speaking personally I find the idea of a personified interventionist God as described in the Bible to be unlikely, and unnecessary from the point of view of evidence.
