The phrase "security through obscurity is no security at all" refers to algorithms

It refers to pretty much anything. For example, there are network security guys out there relying on the hacker not knowing the local topology or firewall rules. As with other security through obscurity, it's pretty dangerous.

The phone company relied on this a long time ago, their security destroyed through a cereal box whistle.
