If you believe that the president has THE most power, please explain, in 100 words,exactly what these POWERS are that he can use, to close all four borders. And since we had as bad of a Southern border problem in the early 1950s ( you knew that, didn't you ? ), why wasn't it permanently fixed back then?
Bush has the power to deploy the military to our borders for national security reasons.
But it doesn't really matter what powers the president has because he hasn't even tried to do anything. He doesn't even talk about this issue. He calls the minutemen "vigilantes". Even if he was the head of a dictatorship he wouldn't do anything because it's obvious that he doesn't want too. If anything Bush has a history of trying to block anything that might help protect our borders. Bush does have the power to close our borders he just doesn't want too. Right after 9/11 Bush could have gotten the support he needed to do anything it took to close the borders without anyone who mattered saying a word
I don't see how anyone who feels we need to do more to protect our borders can defend Bush on this issue. Bush sure seems to pressure congress on the issues he supports. Have you seen him do that when it comes to illegal immigration? No, he only does that when he's trying to get something that might help our illegal immigration problem out of a bill.
I realize this has been a problem for many years. There have been very few politicians who have ever really tried to solve this problem. But Bush is the current president and he hasn't even attempted to do anything positive to secure our borders. If we are attacked by terrorist who come through one of our open borders then Bush will be rightfully blamed. It might be different if he was making an honest effort to get the job done, but he isn't.
