Arithmetic is a part of mathematics. So it is obvious to all that you are merely trying again to keep the topic away from tax reform
Me?!? I'm not the one who said "Oh, and it's not mathematics ... it's arithmetic" and continues to contest the obviously stupid statement. So maybe pigdog, realizing that the 29.87% FairTax rate has been shown to be a fantasy (it would be 34% without replacing payroll taxes), is trying to keep the topic away from tax reform.

which you abhor
LOL! Abhorring the FairTax is not abhoring tax reform.

Agreed. But you abhor any tax reform that has a chance.

So today, the rate is too high? Or are you going with the rate is too low today again? Just curious what to expect today.

Oh - and is it a flat tax on income, a VAT tax, or something else that you'll say you prefer today?

Well, Nightie, the 29.87% tax-exclusive number is not a fantasy at all, but a calculation from the 23% tax-inclusive number currently in the bill.

With the effectivity of the Bush tax cuts, the FairTax rate may very well drop to 19% tax-inclusive (23.46% t. e.) and it might very well even go lower if the scoring exercise is honestly done (which if the Treasury Staff did as it did for the Tax Panel, it would most likely not be). They're the ones that (along with Sir Gale of Brookings) gave you the inflated 34% and up rate notion.

Let's talk about tax reform then and discuss how your (presently preferred but undefined) flat tax would tax the underground economy, illegal aliens, foreign tourists, common burglars and thieves who steal money. You can't.

Let's also hear you expound upon how the flat tax will help our exporters by reducing their prices when they export things and how it taxes things their foreign competitors sell here to the detriment of US goods. You can't.

Let's hear you talk about how the flat tax will eliminate the IRS and it's hold on all our lives and how it will also eliminate payroll taxes. You can't.

So you see, Nightie, instead of talking about tax reform you are careful to steer clear of that and instead concentrate on insulting and denigrating any FairTax supporter possible. Attack and insult - those are your only tools and most people on these threads recognize that.

Whenever you'd like to discuss tax reform, there are some topics in this post you might elucidate upon.
