If Bush should go for other than a true conservative SCOTUS nominee, he will find himself having tried for a bridge to far.

Or, more than a few true conservatives might, just might, sit out the next midterm election, dems controlling the house and senate for Bush's last two years would be totally unpleasant methinks.

Too many pubbie pols are akin to firebrand revolutionaries talking grandiose in the hills. Once they come down to take power, they are no different than the former occupants. Power for power's sake was what they were really after, not true change for betterment of the country.
