This isn't about parents' rights vs. spousal rights. It's about the government deciding who has a right to live.

That's silly. These decisions get made every day by families where there is no dispute among them. The courts don't involve themselves in it without invitation. The courts were involved here only because there was a dispute. Courts always should and will settle disputes between people.
