As for secession itself, the states cannot vote to secede themselves out of the union. " They sure did anyway. "Cannot" is a very strong word. And you know what? The North took it at the time that the South voted to secede.

The States that voted to secede voted on the state level, not the national level.

Those congressmen of those states attempting to secede resigned from the Congress.

And where is the evidence that this was unlawful? Lincoln wasn't even most on the ballots in the South and he still won.
