Yankees have no idea what that flag really means. It's no use in telling them.

I wonder if the Confederate apologists helped the Japanese with their new Textbooks.

From what I can remember, the Confederate forces were not able to hold N.O. and Southern Louisiana for long. They managed to keep the rest though for 4 years.

I don't see what the big deal is. We have a Stars and Bars flying outside.

Ol' Andy still doesn't get it.
His world view was slightly disturbed, but he seems to have rolled over and gone back to sleep again.

I'm guessing you don't fly a Stars and Bars near Ithaca, NY.
To a New Yorker, the Confederate Battle Flag means something radically different than to the Southerner. The narrative we're told about the civil war is that it was about freeing slaves; southerners were told that it was about the state's rights to self-regulate. Thus, to a Southerner, the Confederate Battle flag symbolizes all that was right about the south - chivalry, defense of one's homeland, and the noble political sentiment of a limited federal government. To the Northerner, the Confederate Battle Flag symbolizes all that was evil about the south - an oppression of a people considered to be subhuman. Neither is exactly wrong, per se, it's more a matter of perspective than objective facts.

If they have to ask, they will never understand the answer.

This is yet one of numerous feeble distortions by 'neo-confederates' attempting to soft soap what most Americans firmly believe concerning those entrenched in the failures of the past.
