House Majority Leader Tom DeLay apologized Wednesday for using overheated rhetoric on the day Terri Schiavo died, but refused to say whether he supports impeachment of the judges who ruled in her case.
~snip~
At a crowded news conference in his Capitol office, DeLay addressed remarks he made in the hours after the brain-damaged Florida woman died on March 31. "I said something in an inartful way and I shouldn't have said it that way and I apologize for saying it that way," DeLay told reporters.

DeLay seemed at pains to soften, if slightly, his rhetoric of March 31, when Schiavo died despite an extraordinary political and legal effort to save her life.
"I believe in an independent judiciary. I repeat, of course I believe in an independent judiciary," DeLay said.
At the same time, he added, the Constitution gives Congress power to oversee the courts.
"We set up the courts. We can unset the courts. We have the power of the purse," DeLay said.
Asked whether he favors impeachment for any of the judges in the Schiavo case, he did not answer directly.
Instead, he referred reporters to an earlier request he made to the House Judiciary Committee to look into "judicial activism" and Schiavo's case in particular.

I hadn't noticed that either, cyn.
hmmmmm
Peach: I'll wait while you provide a link. That is contrary to everything I've heard and read.
Study: Most Change Mind About Assisted Suicide (7/3/2002)Nearly 90% of people who ask their doctors to help them kill themselves later change their minds, US researchers report.
There is some positive news, it appears Ora Mae Magouirk won't be suffering the same fate as she's been saved. All the publicity in the media, especially the internet over the Schiavo case will definitely have these Grim Reaper judges thinking twice in the future before deciding to play God.
AAiieeeee!!!! Second hand smoke, second hand smoke!!!! We're all gonna dieeeEEEEE!!!!
The thread is mostly argumentative banter without much useful analysis or thoughtful commentary. Signal to noise is heavily on the "noise" side.
Isn't that like 95% of the posts on FR though? I still don't understand why it was moved.
Clearly. But I'm just providing links without much in the way of commentary or personal opinion.
Thanks - I've asked for clarification, because it's kind of an unusual set of circumstances.
LOL.
Well, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not :-)
Clearly some people who are very ill with a terminal illness re-think their end of life issues. Particularly as it relates to fear over pain.
But that's not the same as asking people whether they wish to be kept alive for years on end by machines without cognitive abilities.
Good for you; be sure to let lugsoul know if you get an answer.
IMO, and FWIW, the way the real name was used came off as taunting too.
lugsoul was bounced for a week by the mods for daring to ask a question of the Admin. Moderator about what the rules are for posting a name, a real name.
Isn't that stinky, considering your find?
Let me know if there's something we can do about his getting bounced for such a bogus reason.
Thanks!
That is not why he was suspended.
Thanks.
....think that it was WRONG to murder Terri Schiavo.
The other 15% are marginalized and desperate, and many have actually lowered themselves to saying that Terri's murder was justified by "the rule of law", as if the case was a zoning dispute. Michael Schiavo, the scumbag euthenizers, the weird county probate judge, and that 15% won this round. Terri Schiavo is dead, and that's forever. Congratulations to them.
But as far as the scumbag activist judges are concerned, another battle is just beginning to percolate. I trust Tom DeLay to do what needs to be done. His effectiveness is what scares the bejeebers out of the scumbags, and it is why they are going after him like this.
Regards,
LH

The page that the "9 of 10 decide not to do the assisted suicide thing" has some other studies that might be interesting to readers.
