Illegal entrant taped holding 'caught' T-shirt By Michael Marizco ARIZONA DAILY STAR
PALOMINAS - Cochise County officials said they are investigating two Minuteman volunteers after an illegal entrant complained Wednesday to authorities that he was held against his will.
One of the men paid the illegal entrant $20 and gave him a T-shirt to hold up while he filmed the encounter. The T-shirt read: "Bryan Barton Caught an Illegal Alien and all I got was this T-shirt," said Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff's Department.
It's the first encounter where an illegal entrant has filed a complaint against Minuteman Project volunteers since the monthlong controversial protest started Friday. Volunteers have gathered in Southern Arizona to protest what they said is the federal government's inability to control the border.
Critics said the encounter is the first sign that the Minuteman Project is a "sham" meant to humiliate illegal entrants.
The incident started Wednesday afternoon when Barton, 24, and a second Minuteman volunteer encountered the illegal entrant on Arizona 92 near Palominas, Capas said.
Barton said he gave the man the T-shirt and $20 plus food and water. Then he filmed the man holding up the T-shirt.
The volunteers then called the Border Patrol, which sent agents to pick up the entrant. Once in custody, the entrant complained about being held by the volunteers.
"It was supposed to be funny," Barton said about the encounter.
Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever didn't think so.
"We have no time or patience for anyone attempting to turn this situation into a three-ring circus," he said.
The Cochise County Attorney's Office is also investigating the complaint.
Barton, who is running for Congress in San Diego on the Republican ticket, said he's not worried about charges being filed and that he never held the man against his will.
He said deputies seized the video for evidence. No arrests have been made in the incident.
"This shows what we've been saying all along," said Jennifer Allen, director of the Border Action Network.
"It was nothing but a media sham to mislead the public," she said. "Clearly they misrepresented the situation. They misrepresented themselves."
Minuteman Project organizers Chris Simcox and James Gilchrist could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

I would also like to point out that holding an illegal alien against his will while performing a citizens arrest is actually LEGAL in Arizona. While the moron may have violated the S.O.P. of the Minuteman Project he certainly did not violate any laws despite all the whining from the open borders whackos.
I know a number of people who detain illegal aliens. Roger Barnett is a good example. He's detained thousands and has been investigated numerous times and each time he is exonerated of charges because he is actually obeying the law. His only problem now is the frivolous lawsuits that the open borders traitors have exploited a few poor illegal aliens to get them to file. He's weathered these things before and will weather them now. There are others down here who have done the same thing, been investigated, and exonerated. See Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 13.
I told you before that this guy is NOT an MMP organizer despite what a single article claims.
I also asked you to knock off the MMK crap. It is an inaccurate and inflammatory smear of the MMP.
And you know this how?
Whew you guys in the DNC basement are going to go with this, no matter what.
Oh yeah how come hillary isn't down on the border, giving the minutemen her blessing?
You seem to relish in the fact that people have been banned. Is that your definition of an honest debate? Perhaps you can share with us how you define debate? It certainly can't include those that disagree with you, because you've indicate those people shouldn't even be allowed to post.
>>I suspect you're more likely to vote for her than I am.<<
Bankrupt arguments and baiting won't cut it........
Fair enough. But the same rules apply to all parts of this debate. And this passage should especially apply to those who come here from Mexico.
Despite my screen name, I swear I have an air-tight alibi. {g}
I've got other stuff to do today. Have fun trashing the US with your pro-criminal alien rhetoric...
"good moral character is the first essential in a man... and your conduct here may stamp your character through life. It is therefore highly important that you should endeavor not only to be learned but virtuous."
and then there's the 3 of you... LOL
>>And you know this how?<<
Clinton called in ignorant help for more baiting. Go to your room!
All illegal aliens and border intruders are bad apples. The very first act upon entering our country was violating our laws. Every minute they remain in our country they are still committing a crime. They are criminals. Every time they take a job they are violating our laws. Every time a dishonest, law-breaking employer hires one of them our laws are being violated.
In this case, some glory hound pulled a stupid stunt but he violated no laws. In the case of illegal aliens we have millions of them violating our laws every minute of every day. I think that you need a little bit of perspective here.
A few questions: What would be a non-smarmy way to disagree with you? Does name calling and foul language meet the definition of passive-agressive? And, finally, are these 'same 3 individuals' automatically disqualified from engaging in debate with you?
You should really lay off the sauce at 12:35 PM EST, IMO.
Wake up ~ the train's leaving the station and you ain't on it!
"MMK"=Bad, "open borders whackos"= OK?
Let's look at the facts:
In a long interview on Homeland Security, Hillary made the following verbatim staement: "I am, you know, adamently against illegal immigration".
Some how, you and others construe this to mean that she has taken a position that is somewhere to the right.
The reality is that everyone is against illegal immigration, including Hillary.
Essentially everyone supports an immigration reform bill that utilizes an expansion of guest workers, including Hillary.
The only difference would be the details of the particular reform bill.
Can you show me where Hillary has indicated that she supports a solution other than the official democratic position of supporting a compromise bill such as AgJobs?
I think she's visiting Tancredo's command post. It's housed in his newly refurbished basement.
Indeed not, but the truth sure works.
Further, despite your obvious implication, no one cares where the illegal aliens come from. Mexico, however, is the primary source of the criminal invaders coming into this country. Decrying the invasion across our border will certainly have to mention Mexico. However, I have not witnessed ANY anti-Mexican sentiment expressed by the Minuteman Project nor its volunteers.
Also, you're implying that border security advocates (shouldn't we all be one since 9/11, but there's no convincing some people) are somehow anti-immigrant. This is the same crap the local leftist papers pull all the time. We're always called "anti-immigrant" when we are instead anti-illegal-immigrant". It is a smear meant to damage the credibility of the border security advocate. I expect that from the leftist media, I would expect better from a long-time FReeper.
