I meant to mention. I've have two phones call from the GOP in two days fund raising.

I told them how unhappy I was that the Congress and president inserted themselves in what has always been a private family decision to be made with their doctor.

Today's fund raiser said very firmly and *somewhat* convincingly "Oh, they regret that believe me."

I told the fellow that until I had evidence of just how much they regret it, I wasn't sending any money.

And now I see a thread that Tom DeLay wants to impeach some judges. Sigh.

The Republican fundraisers have been driving me nuts. They always request my husband specifically, and they always call in the middle of the day, no matter how many times I tell them he's at work, it's only 2 in the afternoon in Hawaii, etc., etc. I got a bit testy with one today, telling him to PLEASE put us on their no-call list.

The past couple of weeks haven't made me want to give ANYTHING to the GOP.

As you know, I'm usually a pretty passionate defender of judges - most of these guys do a good job on most cases, but the cases where a judge rules correctly usually don't make the papers. Frankly, my tolerance for loose attacks on judges dropped even lower when Rowland Barnes got killed just for doing his job. That bias being fully admitted, I am completely at a loss for how one can think impeachment of Whittemore would be in any way justified (and who else could they possibly go after?). I know this could sound elitist, but I just don't think these people have any idea what it is that judges do. I mean, you could see it here - before Whittemore's 1st ruling, less than 24 hours after he first got the case, the chorus was screaming 'why hasn't he ruled already?!' Then, after he ruled, they were screaming 'why didn't he have a full-blown trial?!' - as if the Schindlers didn't ASK for a TRO hearing. I guess these folks thought that these judges were just sitting around playing cards waiting for a Schiavo case to hit their desks.

Anyone who doesn't realize that the judges in the last three weeks have given the Schindlers more leeway, more consideration, more attention, etc. than any other litigant in their courtroom in years just doesn't have any understanding of how the system works.
