My biggest pet peeve regarding the Terri supporters is their claim that anyone who disagrees with them will be "happy" when this woman expires.

That is utter nonsense. If there was any way to make this woman anything more than a vegetable again, I would be behind keeping her alive 100%. However, that is not the case. I will feel no joy when she finally dies, but I realize that, in this case, keeping her alive artificially does nothing other than make the parents feel a little bit better.

Now, you are a member of the Death Squad until you repent, agree fully with them, and begin demanding that Jeb send in the National Guard.

I will feel no joy when she dies, just a deep sadness that the potential of her lovely girlhood was so lost. I will cry, but I'll be crying for the girl she once was...described by those who knew her then.

She was a girl who laughed easily at her uncle's lame jokes. A girl so innocent that she wrote to John Denver, asking him to come sing at her wedding, who went to Disney World for her honeymoon and believed that a good life meant that one day she'd be able to vacation there every year with her kids.

She was a girl who loved animals and worshiped cute television stars, paying homage to heartthrobs Starsky and Hutch by naming two gerbils after them. She daydreamed about working for a veterinarian when she grew up, or maybe just being a dog groomer.

The beautiful young woman who had already lost the ability to live the life she wanted by the time my own now-teenaged daughter was born.
