There are plenty of eloquent, reasonable posters on the parents' side. But they are being drowned out by some totally hysterical people. And this is REALLY hurting our reputation here at FR. It's downright embarrassing. :(
You are correct. I'm appalled by the level of hysteria, the calls for sending in the troops, the calls for violence, and as andyandmikesmom said, the rumors and innuendo being taken for absolute truth. It seems that a truckload of haldol would be useful.
Very well said by the three of you.
Amen.
The hysteria that has occured on FR the last week may take years to overcome.
Nobody will take this place seriously. It's not that people are siding with the parents, it's the death threats, conspiracy theories, calls to disregard the constitution.
I can't take that seriously, why should any dispassionate observer?
Verily I say unto you andysandmikesmom, "Amen!"
I'll count you among the very good. If more people like you had been advocating on behalf of Terri's parents instead of the Randall Terrys of this world... who knows...
That is the most sane, logical, and mature thing I've read regarding this Schaivo hysteria that has gripped FR.
Well done.
I was on the losing side during the Elian saga here in Florida, and I remember emotions were running high everywhere... at the grocery stores, at the gym, at work, at social gatherings. Republicans were against Republicans, friends against friends.
Then the election 2000 story broke, and all Republicans banded together again. And all my friends forgave me for my emotional outbursts a long time ago.
I know. I know. (sigh)
At least six. Maybe eight. Everyone else seems to have gone stark, raving mad.
Right now, we're not seeing FR's finest hour by a long shot.
Unfortunately, I doubt the madness will cease. If my guess is correct that Terri will not be saved, then we'll see an explosion of rage blaming the Bush brothers and Republicans in general for it, when that actually defies the facts and all logic.
Here's my rule of thumb. If I'm pounding the keyboard extra hard, I probably shouldn't hit post. I found that out the hard way, but I think a lot of people here might want to adopt the same rule.
Thanks toots...excellent post.
Beautifully stated. I have never seen such vitriol in my entire life. And from so-called Christians yet...that's what is really astounding. This is how the left acts.
Two people have freepmailed me today that they want to leave FR. One of them is leaving the GOP.
The sad thing is that the president and Jeb Bush did what they did to appease the radical 25% within the Evangelical community, and those people are STILL angry and want MORE action. It's Politics 101 that you don't appease the radical 25% of your base. It's what got the DNC in trouble.
That conservatives are endorsing violence, using children to get arrested taking water to Terri, and screaming out dissent on what is basically a discussion board is something that has made me very sad.
There has been a coup on FR and a lot of us have just noticed in the last few days.
I'd say most of the stark raving loons are Democrat plants.
I have to agree with you! This is utter nonsense and it's completely out of control! Come on GET REAL!
BINGO!
Did you see that poll? 3/4 of the FReepers who voted want to send in the troops! Now I'm guessing that the poll may not be accurate because most posters probably ignore polls but this is still alarming.
