HOMOSASSA, Fla. — The full-scale search for a missing 9-year-old girl ended its final day as law enforcement officers turned to child abduction experts for help.
Investigators and hundreds of volunteer searchers have uncovered little evidence during five days of scouring the rural area where Jessica Lunsford disappeared, and the full-scale search was suspended Monday afternoon.
"To continue this, we would be spinning our wheels," said Citrus County Sheriff Jeff Dawsy.
Instead, law enforcement officers were turning to 20 experts from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to help crack the case. They planned to focus on a three-quarter mile radius area around Jessica's home.
Jessica's father described the change as a second phase of the investigation. After making a plea for her safe return while choking back tears, he expressed confidence that his daughter would come home.
"Just drop her off. I'll come get her," Mark Lunsford answered when asked what he would say to whoever had Jessica. "I know whoever has got Jessie, they have to have a heart."
He also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support. "It's been overwhelming, the people that have shown up," he said. "It makes me feel real good to know everyone's trying to help me out."
Lunsford said he remains convinced that his daughter did not leave home voluntarily even though authorities have uncovered no evidence she was abducted. He said it's unlikely Jessica was lured away.
"She just didn't go with strangers," Lunsford said. He said authorities also are looking for a stuffed purple dolphin missing from his daughter's room.

MSNBC showed it very shortly after the announcement that Couhey had confessed. Then CNN showed it later but I could not look at it again and changed the channel.
Get this, it was shot this last weekend (or Monday night) when some news channel was doing a story about smoking in bars and he happened to be there and they had lots of footage of him.
Then a day or two later when he became a "person of interest" the reporter remembered the face and looked at his video footage and there he was.
It is truly creepy.
I did see that video and it was indeed disturbing, knowing what we know now.
I'm also disturbed by much of what I have seen and read about the entire case. I've said it before, LE could have hauled in the entire neighbor as suspects.
Well, he did confess to the murder, so I think the charging and convicting are somewhat a formality now.
I apologize and pray you pardon me for daring to have an opinion. Also, pardon me for not being on much, as I have a job and I can't sit around all day building shrines to those who murder 9 year olds.

A reporter was doing a story on drinking and smoking in bars and when Courey's picture hit the streets he remembered filming him.
The universe is just not right when someone like Courey can be alive and poor Jessica is dead...

My son has a baseball tournament this weekend about 30 miles from home. The news broke while we were on our way. This morning, I made the excuse of having to run home to get something I forgot so I could hit this thread.
My heart broke hearing the emotion in Dawsy's voice as he made the announcement. The family is making a statement at 9 am this morning.
I need to catch up on this thread. I heard there was a BOLO out for a white car (a Toyota?) with three people. One of those was scumbag's half-sister.
