The frustration from those on the other side comes from the fact popular opinion is not with them, and besides name-calling in the past has proven effective at shutting people up.

I can't say that popular opinion is for or against this issue.Most of the public, some 80% have little or no interest in this issue.

This debate is confined to the others, some of whom are directly affected and some who view it as a looming problem that needs to be addressed and are trying to find consensus.

I am trying to get a handle on another issue,the subject of the thread, that deals with the degradation of debate to improper accusations.

I want to be able to understand an recognize the problem so that it can be avoided in the future.
