"Ahhhh...Arizona used to BE Mexico."

As did California and Texas. Spanish language place names are common in all of them, plus New Mexico, which was also once part of Mexico.

It's silly to rail against Spanish place names.

Only technically. The spanish culture didn't really extend up here and the settlers were only technically citizens of Mexico. That's why it is silly for the Aztlaners to try to claim this area for Aztlan. And, you know, Utah and Colorado used to also technically be a part of Mexico too. So what? Maybe you missed a few facts in my post. Sierra Vista was founded in 1953, far beyond any Spanish influence in the area and the roads named with Mexican names were named well after 1953 - most within the last 10-20 years. If anything, there would be influence of various Indian tribes, not any Spanish influence in the area. It's just not here except for the fact that Coronado once traipsed through here.

It was part of the mostly unsettled territory claimed by Spain. After Mexico became independent from Spain, it was so incompetently ruled, it could not hang onto it's northern territory for more than 25 years. Arizona was part of Mexico for a very short time. Less time than Mexico was part of France I believe.
