I haven't posted much about President Bush's proposal for "guest workers". I have been studying this issue and trying to understand it myself. I cannot support what I understand the President is proposing. Perhaps there is mor to understand. I very much want to give his plan a fair hearing, but as I said from what I've heard of it, I can't support it.

It is here in this forum that I have an opportunity to hear the pro's and the con's. Jim Rob you cannot know how much I personally appreciate this forum and your handling of it. You have been the most tolerant person I know in dealing with malcontents. More so than I. I salute you sir and thank you.

There was a saying in our church meetings, "There is room for disagreement, but there is no room for disagreeableness."

The problem with the "guest worker" proposal is in the enforcement, the creation of yet-another bureaucracy to administer same, and then there's the generous 3-year time limit, at the end of which, the "guest worker" will return to country of origin. . . ? There is no guarantee.

Before we even contemplate a "guest worker" program, we need to seal the porous border and face the fact that we have criminals in our midst: persons who entered this country illegally, remain illegally and a great number of whom reside in our prisons.
