We don't have open borders by any stretch. What we don't have is sealed borders. And no country in the world does. The closest anyone ever came to it was on a very local basis with the Berlin Wall. A little over a hundred miles in length.

Even it was breached quite a few times.

We can't possibly seal our borders. How many thousands of miles of unguarded coastline do we have?

Give me a few thousand dollars and I promise you that I can enter any country in the world illegally and without their knowledge.

The only way to prevent illegal border crossings is to remove the incentive for doing that. Make legal crossings attractive, and illegal ones less desirable. It's the only approach that can work.

Yours is one of the best answers I've read! Maybe taking away any benefits to illegals? No driver's licenses, no public school, no subsistence help, no rent help, no medical help, etc., etc. "These Benefits Available ONLY to Citizens and Those Here Legally". Too many Democrats and Rhinos for that to happen, though.

I agree. That is what makes Dubya's worker amnesty plan so unpalatable, no matter what sugar-coated euphemism he chooses to call it. Those employers who aid and abet illegal immigration should be held accountable and severely penalized. THAT will remove the financial incentive for illegal immigration.

I do know a little about how the coastline is monitored and it is done far better than the US Mexicon border. Numerous Coast Guard Patrol ships align their radars across the straits of Florida, seamlessly, so that litte if anything gets through without being spotted in a heartbeat.

The sad thing there is that illegals from Cuba really do deserve asylum since they are fleeing the real thing, Communism at it's absolute worst in Fidel's Cuba.
