You guys always give yourselves away, and you have this need to resort to lies.
There has never been any indication from Bush, his cabinet, or anyomne in hius administration that this plan would only apply to one group...it's YOUR fixation on all things Mexican that gets into gear, and projects YOUR prejudices on to everything.
Here are Bush's words on the subject from his 2005 State of the Union Address:
"America's immigration system is also outdated -- unsuited to the needs of our economy and to the values of our country. We should not be content with laws that punish hardworking people who want only to provide for their families, and deny businesses willing workers, and invite chaos at our border. It is time for an immigration policy that permits temporary guest workers to fill jobs Americans will not take, that rejects amnesty, that tells us who is entering and leaving our country, and that closes the border to drug dealers and terrorists."
And to make it fair --- those who have committed felony document fraud and broke the laws to be here should not be given any preference over those who are obeying our laws. All applicants to the guest worker plan should apply from within their own country. Lawbreakers should not be moved to the front of the line while lawabiders are turned away. In fact those who committed felony document fraud crimes should not be eligible at all for any kind of legal immigration or guest worker plan.
And what other foreign government is demanding and ramming through this "guest worker" program? And what leader besides Vicente Fox would go into a rage if Bush suddenly called off the plans for a "guest worker" plan? Imagine Fox's livid reaction if Bush were to announce that guest workers were going to be from any number of countries besides Mexico and that to make sure law breakers aren't given preference over law abiders that the guests would be applying from within their homelands? Don't tell me that the Mexican government isn't the one pushing this thing.
