That may be so; but, the issue here is that local businessmen don't want to pay legal wages. They don't want to pay a market established wage. They just want the profit they can get from slavery without the label. And the politicians have seen to it that they have had it. It's come to Jesus time on a number of subjects. And what Mexico thinks about it is moot. Why the illegals are coming in droves is irrelevant.
They have access to the legal means of getting here and would then have the protections of our legal system as well as constitutional rights. They have no excuses - nor do the politicians or the business crowd. And the time for excuse making is long past. The time for corrective action is here. And the risk rises every time they feed us a line of crap IMO.

Every time the Democrats raise the minimum wage they drive young workers out of the market and usher in more illegals to undercut the the minimum wage and all the expensive benefits with cash payments.

A local contractor let go a tile setter and hired an illegal who underbid the American by a few pennies an hour. There are many terrible stories about our skilled labor in this area.

And we are now 70% Latino population.

Like Luis Gonzalez says, it's the sugar that brings in the ants, not the holes in the wall.

Those businesses are to the Republicans what the lawyers are to the Democrats, a source of corrupt donations. And the minimum wage is a Democrat issue to help them get and keep the power to graft the system, not a matter of injustice to them.

And if you think either those lawyers or those businessmen or those politicians are going to let go of their bag of gold without a lot of pressure, then think again.

Luckily, Dubya has one advantage now and you can see it in the spring in his step. He doesn't have to stand for re-election again. He is free to do the right thing.

So, everybody, don't just knee-jerk and scream at him. Work the problem. Think about real solutions. And let him know.

For me, if they raise the minimum wage, it should all go for health insurance some way or another.
