Prevalence

Percent of adults who drank alcohol in the past year: 62.7

Percent of current drinkers who had five or more drinks on at least one day in the past year: 32.2

So Last year more than 50% of alcohol users drank very heavily. Even those who had 3 or 4 drinks were drunk enough to not be able to drive legally.

But 90% of alcohol goes to toasting a farewell, cool of on a hot day, or enhance the flavor of meat. Only a tiny few do it for the buzz. Sure.

Perhaps. I'll bet the figure was much lower during Prohibition.
